& HAND STRIPPING
I have to say I love to see a breed looking just as it should and in particular Terriers.
These days our dogs fit into our busy lifestyles and generally, the main concern for most owners is that their dog is healthy, happy and well groomed, maintenance is easy and they look great ( most of the time), so clipping a terrier coat is no problem and makes them look clean and smart.
However, most Terriers are born with a coat that will naturally grow wiry and coarse, as they were originally bred to hunt vermin, so their wiry coats kept them safe from brambles and thorns.
The process of hand stripping is pain-free as you are stripping out the dead coat that is no longer attached to the dog. It keeps the wired coat in its original tip-top condition, promotes a healthy coat and keeps the natural oils in the skin so the terrier will keep its lovely strong colours. Ideally, you should start getting a wire coated breed used to hand stripping from around 5 months old.
If you have a wire-haired terrier please talk to me about hand stripping, I’d love to keep them in the condition they were born to be in.
